Ken Lazarus is CEO of Scout Exchange. Having co-founded, led and advised over a dozen technology-based startups, he has over twenty-five years of experience growing innovative companies. Ken is passionately focused on using the power of data, marketplace dynamics, and technologies such as machine learning to disrupt and improve how companies find and hire the best talent.
Prior to joining Scout in 2013, he served as CEO of Lilliputian Systems, where he led the development of Lilliputian’s portable power product platform, secured international aircraft regulatory approval, raised significant capital from blue chip investors and signed important strategic distribution and manufacturing agreements, including a landmark partnership with Intel Corporation (NASD: INTL).
Earlier in his career, Ken was CEO of ACX, a maker of vibration and motion control equipment, which he co-founded. ACX was ranked #79 on the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing private companies and earned numerous accolades including Popular Science’s “Best of What’s New” product award before being acquired by Cymer, Inc. (NASD: CYMI). While at Cymer, he held the positions of Division General Manager and Senior VP of Software Products and Control Systems.
Ken also cofounded DataXu and Ekotrope and has worked with numerous other startups. He holds a Ph.D. from MIT and a B.S. from Duke University. A World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, he has served as a MIT Visiting Committee Member and holds over 20 patents. When not working, Ken loves to ski, bike, play golf and tennis, read biographies, and spend time with his family.
Michael UmanaCFO and COO
Michael Umana is a team builder with entrepreneurial vision. His consistent record of spearheading process improvements and culture changes delivers strong contributions to revenue, profit, and cash flow. Umana has held the executive positions of Senior VP and CFO at Lojack Corporation; Executive VP, COO, and CFO at Saucony; and VP and CFO of the Instruments Business Unit at Perkin Elmer. In addition, he has significant experience at venture-backed startups, as well as with the Consulting and Audit Practices division at Arthur Andersen. Umana drives financial and operating performance in high-growth situations, building value and completing over $700M in M&A transactions. He earned his degree in Accounting from the Boston University Questrom School of Business. He is also a current member of the MSCPA, AICPA, and CGMA.
Jim McCoyChief Revenue Officer & GM
As Scout’s Chief Revenue Officer and General Manager, Jim leads all client-facing functions including Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, and Strategic Partnerships. He brings over 15 years of experience in the talent acquisition industry, most recently having served as Vice President and Global Practice Leader of Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) for ManpowerGroup (NYSE: MAN). During his tenure at Manpower, Jim led a team of more than 3,000 recruiting professionals providing services to more than 400 clients around the world. Earlier in his career, he served as Senior Vice President of Consulting Services for Veritude, a Fidelity Investments Company. A frequent speaker at HR industry forums, Jim has been published and quoted regularly by recruiting and human capital management industry influencers.
John ChuangPrincipal Investor and Director
John Chuang is the CEO of TRI Ventures, which has invested in dozens of market-transforming companies including Scout, Angie’s List (NASDAQ: ANGI) and others. He also is the Chairman of Aquent (originally MacTemps), which he founded in 1986 and, as CEO, grew to become the world’s largest creative staffing agency.
With over thirty years of experience in the professional staffing industry, John has been widely recognized for his entrepreneurial leadership and accomplishments, including recognition as a Boston Business Journal “40 Under 40”, a Mass High Tech All Star, and Ernst and Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” New England. He has served as President of Massachusetts Staffing Association, and board member for The American Staffing Association (ASA) and The American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA).
John earned a bachelor’s degree cum laude from Harvard College and an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School.
